Biography

Cassondra Hanna is a second-year Bridge to the Doctorate Fellow in the Department of History. She explores the intersections of race, education, and capitalism in the making of modern America. Specifically, her master’s thesis traces the evolution of Avery College through questions of American Slavery, Expansion and Industrialization in the history of the Ohio River Basin. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she holds a B.A. in History and African American Studies from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. Her advisor is Justene Hill Edwards.
