Faculty Members on C-Span
Profs. Gallagher and Varon are featured in two recent C-Span programs, which have aired repeatedly on television and are available on-line at C-Span's "American History TV" site. The first covers highlights of the national meeting of the Society of Civil War Historians, at which Gallagher gave a keynote address on the geography of emancipation and Varon gave an address on the meanings of Lee's surrender for African-Americans. The second covers the recent National Archives Civil War Symposium, in which Gallagher's panel covered the home front and Varon's panel assessed the postwar period. These events kick off what is sure to be a very busy Civil War Sesquicentennial for both professors, and for the Corcoran Department of History.
