Biography
Kubra Sagir is a PhD student in History at the University of Virginia and in Political Studies at EHESS, Paris. Her research examines the international dimensions of the Kurdish question, focusing on the critical period between the 1980s and 1990s, when the Kurdish question experienced unprecedented political and military upheaval. The research explores how Kurdish non-state actors navigated shifting international power dynamics and complex geopolitical landscapes. It also highlights the emergence of new actors, such as diaspora groups, civil society organizations, and media, driven by sociopolitical transformations in the region and their interactions with international counterparts. Lastly, it investigates the discursive strategies these actors employed on the global stage in their negotiations for recognition and representation.
