Beverly Bossler is professor of history at the University of California, Davis and author of the forthcoming book Courtesans and Concubines in Song China and also Powerful Relations: Kinship Status and the State in Song China (Harvard, 1998).

Susan Johnson is associate professor of history and Chicana and Latina studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is author of the forthcoming book, A Traffic in Men: The Old Maid, the Housewife, and Their Great Westerner and Roaring Camp: The Social World of the California Gold Rush (2000) and co-editor of The Lesbian Issue: Essays from SIGNS (1985).

Sherry Velasco is Professor of Spanish and Portuguese and Gender Studies at the University of Southern California. She is author of the forthcoming book, Lesbians in Early Modern Spain and of Male Delivery: Reproduction, Effeminacy, and Pregnant Men in Early Modern Spain (2006); The Lieutenant Nun: Transgenderism, Lesbian Desire, and Catalina de Erausa (2000) and Demons, Nausea, and Resistance in the Autobiography of Isabel de Jesús, 1611-1682 (1996).

Afsaneh Najmabadi, "Genus of Sex: How Jins Became Sex in Iran "
Afsaneh Najmabadi is the Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History and of Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Harvard University. She is author of the forthcoming book ,Genus of Sex: How Jins Became Sex in Iran, editor of Islamicate Sexualities: Translations across Temporal Geographies of Desire (2008) and author of Women with Mustaches and Men without Beards: Gender and Sexual Anxieties of Iranian Modernity (2005) and The Story of Daughters of Quchan: Gender and National Memory in Iranian History (1998). She is also director of a NEH digital history project, “Women’s Worlds in Qajar Iran.” [ Co-sponsored by Middle East Studies & SWAG]
