Employment Steps (for Teaching Assistantships)

  • International students must apply for a social security number. Deadline: the Spring semester before teaching begins.
  • All TAs must fill out an I9 form. Deadline: before the first day of classes for teaching.
  • Set up direct deposit to receive wages.
  • Note: Understanding TA wages
    • Students who teach for the department will receive wages for 10 hours of work a week. As opposed to first and fifth year fellowships where the full fellowship sum is issued once a month, students who are teaching assistants will receive half of their fellowship through TA wages and the other half will come from the fellowship sum issued every month.
    • For more information, see this policy on TA Buy-outs.

Thesis Submission and Graduation

For both Master's theses and dissertations, students must follow a number of steps in SIS to apply for graduation and to receive each degree. They must also upload their final thesis to LIBRA. For more information on these processes, click here
