Political scientist Michael Barnett is University Professor of International Affairs and Political Science at George Washington University. He has published extensively on international relations theory, global governance, humanitarian action, and the Middle East. He is the author of many books, including The Empire of Humanity: A History of Humanitarianism (2011), The International Humanitarian Order (2010), Rules for the World: International Organizations in Global Politics (2004), Eyewitness to Genocide: the United Nations and Rwanda (2002), and Confronting the Costs of War: Military Power, State, and Society in Egypt and Israel (1992).
