Our first speaker is William Scanlan, Jr., who earned a B.A. in History from UVA in 1963.
After studying law at the University of Texas and George Washington University, Bill served as a lawyer in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Since then, he's been a partner of Schoenbaum, Curphy, and Scanlan, in San Antonio, TX.
In addition to his practice in trusts and estates, he's maintained a vigorous pro bono practice, most recently representing detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He maintains an active interest in military law, and in particular, in the problem of the use of torture by U.S. personnel.
Bill will speak in 211 Nau, on Friday, October 12th, at 2 pm.
A reception, with refreshments, will follow in 342 Nau.
